Over the course of the pandemic, our organization has been undergoing renovations and upgrades and is transforming into the ‘Island Sexual Health Community Care Center’ to better holistically service the local community. These upgrades include providing the LGBTQ2S+ community with adequate resources. As such we are proud to announce the introduction of Gender Affirming Apparel at The Store at ISH.

We understand that these sorts of items are mostly available online – however fitting for such things (especially binders) is complex and if done wrong can come with complex health risks. We have created a system to provide COVID-19 safe in-person fittings: The store will be open during regular clinic hours for general access. However, we have opened up Monday and Wednesday evenings between 5-8-pm at the clinic for private, after-hours, in-store appointments for the LGBTQ2S+ community. You can book your appointment online now

This initial product roll-out includes a range of binders, packing underwear, and gaffs (including children’s gaffs) from local Vancouver company, Your Open Closet and hand-made, silicone packers from Queer-owned, New York Toy Collective.

We are also excited to stock art and products from local LGBTQ2s+ creators – please follow us on social media for real time updates.

This is just the beginning – and we are always open to and looking for community feedback.

***CLINIC SERVICES UPDATE***

Island Sexual Health would like to thank you for your patience as we continue to gradually return to in person care. We understand that these are challenging times as we all try to balance the health and safety of our community with the need to return to full and healthy living. What this looks like varies from person to person and from business to business. The current service model at Island Sexual Health (virtual visits, limited in-person care) is based on the guidelines for health care providers that we have received from the Provincial Health Officer, Worksafe BC, and the Doctors of BC. We look forward to increasing our service levels as soon as is recommended by these authorities.

Please see below for information on appointments and supply/medication pick up.

Appointments

  1. We require all (new and returning) clients to call us at 250-592-3479 or use our online portal to book an initial assessment appointment with a nurse or doctor. We are currently initially assessing all clients via phone or video appointment to develop a personalized healthcare plan.
  2. If you’ve been told it’s necessary for you to follow up with our clinic for an additional appointment for examination, etc.,  please call us 250-592-3479 to book a second in-clinic appointment for you.  **If you have been seen by phone/video by one of our doctors since March 16, 2020 and were told that you need an exam, we now have availability for in-person appointments – please call us directly 250-592-3479 to book.**
  3. If we have booked an in-clinic follow-up appointment with you; we require you to wear a mask for your protection for your entire visit. If you do not have one; you can find instructions to make a homemade mask here or we will provide one for you to wear during your time in our clinic. We are committed to your safety and are working within our Worksafe BC plan to ensure your visit to our clinic is as comfortable as possible

Supply/Medication Pick Up

  1. You are welcome to pick up supplies/medications at our Quadra Street clinic Monday- Friday between 9 am and 4 pm.
  2. Please follow the instructions posted on the outside of our clinic when you arrive. We are currently closed Saturday and Sunday.

We will continue to post all updates on this page as well as on our facebook, instagram and twitter pages.

Text Line for Sexual Health Questions:

Our confidential texting line is still available 250-812-9374 for any sexual health questions. Please note this line is for general sexuality questions not medical advice.

Our satellite clinics (Camosun, Tsawout and Royal Bay) are CLOSED and clients of these locations are asked to call our main clinic location at 250-592-3479 to access supplies/service.

We appreciate your patience and support as we support your sexual health care needs in the safest ways possible.

Changes in Release of Records to GPs/NPs https://ishs.docu.li/2019/06/changesinmedicalrecordrelease/ Mon, 03 Jun 2019 23:31:30 +0000 https://ishs.docu.li/?p=7250 IMPORTANT PROCESS CHANGE ABOUT RELEASE OF MEDICAL RECORDS TO GPs/NPs

Starting Today Monday, June 3rd, ISH will be asking patients to identify in writing whether they have a family doctor or nurse practitioner, and if so whether they’d like notes from their visit and/or results released to that provider. This change is being made so that we are in compliance with our physicians’ college guidelines, and also to ensure better continuity of care between patients who visit our clinic and their primary care providers.

Please note that we will ONLY release visit notes and/or results to your GP/NP if you **explicitly ask** that we do so, and our nurses and doctors will ask you about this at every visit – we understand that you might want some notes shared with your GP/NP and not others.

Thanks for helping us put this process in place. Your right to access confidential sexual health care services will always be our top priority.

For more info about the physicians’ college guidelines please see: https://www.cpsbc.ca/files/pdf/PSG-Walk-In-Urgent-Care-Multi-Physician-Clinics.pdf
